Neighbor Help — Eligibility & Program Terms
Last updated: November 18, 2025
Neighbor Help is a community assistance program operated by HouzTask to provide in-kind home services (labor and/or materials) to households facing challenges at home. No cash awards are provided. Please review these terms before submitting a nomination.
1. Program Purpose
Neighbor Help is designed to support households that may benefit from small home improvements, safety-related fixes, essential repairs, cleaning, organization, or basic comfort upgrades. The program focuses on need-based selection, not chance or random drawing.
2. Eligibility
To qualify for consideration, the household must meet all of the following:
- The home is located within 30 miles of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
- The nominee is at least 18 years of age.
- The nominator confirms they have permission to share the nominee's information.
- The home is reasonably safe and accessible for visiting professionals.
- The requested project type falls within the program's service capabilities (for example, small repairs, minor fixes, cleaning, organizing, or safety improvements).
HouzTask reserves the right to verify eligibility before assistance is provided.
3. Selection Process
Neighbor Help is not a lottery or random drawing. Nominations are reviewed based on need, not chance.
- One household may be selected each month.
- Selection is based on household needs, urgency, safety considerations, and the potential impact of the assistance.
- Selection is not guaranteed, and nominations may be held and reconsidered for future months at HouzTask's discretion.
- Multiple submissions for the same household do not change how nominations are reviewed.
4. Scope of Assistance
Neighbor Help provides in-kind home services, not cash. Assistance may include:
- Minor repairs or fixes.
- Safety improvements.
- Cleaning or organization help.
- Basic comfort or usability upgrades.
- Other small projects that fall within a reasonable scope for the program.
The program typically provides up to $1,000 in services, though the actual value may vary based on contractor availability, project type, materials, and safety or feasibility considerations.
HouzTask is not responsible for pre-existing conditions, structural issues, or damage unrelated to the services provided, nor for any issues outside the intended project scope.
5. Service Providers
All work is performed by independent vetted professionals. HouzTask coordinates scheduling and communication but is not liable for:
- Contractor delays or rescheduling.
- Contractor availability in a given area or timeframe.
- Conditions discovered on-site that prevent work from being safely or reasonably completed.
6. Nominator Responsibilities
By submitting a nomination, the nominator agrees to:
- Confirm they have permission to share the nominee's information.
- Provide accurate contact information for themselves and the nominee.
- Respond to reasonable follow-up questions, if needed, to clarify the nomination.
- Allow HouzTask to contact the nominee regarding the nomination and potential services.
Submitting a nomination does not guarantee selection.
